I’m not giving myself one day for cardio, one day for legs, one day for chest or one day for abs. It’s all a mix in my 21-Day Workout Challenge and the intensity and difficulty level goes from beginner to intermediate as this journey slowly advances. A complete newbie to exercising, I’ve managed to get past 8 days of this challenge, and I’m feeling confident of going all the way and completing it too!
You ask me to complete these exercises 2 weeks ago and I would’ve probably let out a loud laugh and probably even a roar. The best part about my routine is that it works every muscle in my body. The 10-minute warm-up at the start breaks the sweat and from there, it’s all hard work to get to the end. 5 exercises daily, with 3 rounds each. Some old exercises while every now and then, there’s a new introduction.

On Day 8 of the challenge, we had the introduction of the knuckle push ups. Disclaimer for girls – don’t think you can come into this exercise with nails on you. Fold your knuckles and carry your body weight. Trust me, it’s much easier said than done. A week ago, I didn’t think I’d be able to do 20 push ups at one go, let alone them being knuckle push ups. But here, I got through the day with a smile on! Day 8 workout:
- Knuckle push ups – 20x.
- Calf raises – 25x each side.
- Mountain climbers – 45 seconds.
- Russian twist – 30 seconds.
- Femoral bridge – 30x.
I guess it’s nice to look at femoral bridge to end your workout. A little bit of working out on your buttocks but not something that will have you dripping wet in sweat. In between, the mountain climbers and Russian twist is exactly what I need. While most others hate ab exercises, I thrive on these. In fact, I found myself going today even after the timer ran out. Each time! Each round!

I complete the workout in 39:42 minutes and today was honestly the least exhausted I’ve felt after a workout session in this calisthenics routine so far. My insides are loving it but I have to admit, it’s not easy. Even the calf raises are tough, carrying 65 kilograms of my body weight on just my calves. Wait, just one calf at a time! I still took it better than I did yesterday for Day 7 of this workout challenge.
Around a fortnight ago, I would laugh if you asked me to give 40 minutes a day to working out, but it’s a good time to start such productive activities with the lockdown in India not expected to relax anytime soon.
