They’ve rolled back the time and years as they’ve brought to you exclusively the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts movie which is streaming on Prime Video, released on 1st January 2022 worldwide.

Of course, Amazon Prime Video had to get the deal for this movie as they have exclusive digital rights to all the other films in the Harry Potter series as well as the Fantastic Beasts movies. Surely, a lot of traffic will go to the original eight movies as well but today, let’s focus on this one which is more or less like the Friends Reunion but a lot of more work and production has gone into the Harry Potter reunion.

Why Watch 'Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts'?

So we’re not here to give you a Return to Hogwarts review but quite honestly, it’s quite a dull movie all by itself. Don’t expect any great revelations or shocking information that you didn’t already have. However, there are quite a few other reasons to watch the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary movie on Prime Video but most of the reasons are if you have been a lover of the book/movie franchise in the past…

Why should you watch the Harry Potter reunion?

1) Just because you’re a fan – Like we said, there are very few surprises in the film. But for those born in the late 80s and early 90s, you’ve lived your childhood along with Harry Potter and his friends from Hogwarts. It’s not just another film franchise but an era by itself. Considering there’s been no other Harry Potter sequel film or after-movie or reunion, this one is sure to take you down memory lane.

2) Power of writing – The film will also give you an insight in the power of writing and the power of books. What released as a fiction book in 1997 (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone) turned out to become a multi-million pound franchise and a word in itself. At a time where technology was born and we thought was supposed to be the death of reading, JK Rowling created a whole new universe and a culture through her writing.

3) Remembering the forgotten stars – Not all of them went on to become famous actors. Look at Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), the Wesley twins or even Rupert Grint (Ron Wesley) for that matter. While the industry kept an eye on Emma Watson, the Return to Hogwarts film gave us an idea of where all our supporting heroes are today, 20 years later.

4) Perspective – Now here’s the first reason why non-Potter fans should watch this. It gives us an idea of the work put in, how it was planned, and how different challenges were overcomes with each movie from the Harry Potter franchise. A hundred different minds came together to create this intricately planned separate universe. Seeing how it materialised is amazing, while a lot of behind the scenes videos are also integrated in the movie.

5) How it happened? – The movie also gives us insights into how the film came to fruition. Right from auditions to casting and how the book/films series caused a revolution not only in the UK but around the world, everything is shown in the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary special. You’ll see a lot of off-camera tricks that were used which today would be a walk-in-the-park with video effects and graphics.

6) Inspiration for aspiring writers – Lastly, seeing this world JK Rowling created will be an inspiration for new writers. She worked over these books for years and we’re sure she though of giving up many times too. But she didn’t and she went on to create a fortune for herself in terms of fame and money. And that too, writing about something that isn’t even real!

Harry Potter Reunion - Why should you watch it?

Why there’d never be a Harry Potter sequel?

Look at all the work involved. Just to make this small, documentary kind of reunion film, so much of work and effort was involved. It’s not like FRIENDS where there were 6 main characters. Harry Potter had a number of main and supporting characters along with those in negative roles. Aligning schedules, figuring logistics, etc would be a huge issue, along with there being no real story to begin with.

Honestly, it would take away the charm of the original eight movies as well. It was a world and an era and a culture, but it has passed. Just as we grow up and left school and college, so did they. The Harry Potter 20th Anniversary film has just helped us feel nostalgic and reminisce down the Hogwarts memory lane, that’s all. We should be grateful and leave it at that.

We leave you with a question, which you can answer in the comments. Why do you think JK Rowling was’t part of the film?! All her video snippets were from the archives from of a 2019 interview, as she believes everything was captured there. Remember, she created the Harry Potter universe, with the books selling more than half a billion copies worldwide and the films earning $7.7+ billion at the box office worldwide.
