Money Heist Season 5 Ending Explained

The reason we’re saying final season is because all signs pointed towards it and none of the previous seasons ending on a good note, signifying a ‘happy ever after’ ending, apart from Season 5. Netflix has gained plenty since hosting this show worldwide for the first time and before getting into the ending, we’re happy to say that no one else had to die after Tokyo sacrificed herself earlier in Season 5.

Money Heist Season 5 Ending Explained

Towards the end of Money Heist 5, the Professor made it very clear to Colonel Tamayo a few times that they can both either win or both lose. And he proved it to him each time. For starters, he held Tamayo hostage to the fact that none of the robbers in the bank knew where the gold actually was, which was part of the plan. And with the country’s economy and stock market dipping rapidly, Tamayo was helpless.

In fact, there wasn’t much room for negotiations either. The Professor told him his only way out was to do a press conference saying everything was under control. That the authorities found the missing gold and that seemed to work, with the economy recovering as soon as the public announcement was made by Tamayo.

The exquisite swap

Professor told Tamayo that that he could end as a hero by keeping this a secret that there wasn’t actually any gold in the Bank of Spain reserves vault. They filled two trucks of gold-plate brass biscuits and filled the vault with them, with Professor saying that this could be just another state secret which could be passed on from President to President over the next 50-70 years at least.

This is because while it is a country’s reserve, it’s never really used for any transactions. It’s more of psychological reserve, and it being there or not wouldn’t make much of a difference, as long as the world thought it was there. And in return for making Tamayo a hero, the Colonel had to ensure all the gang members could be left untouched.

So. Tamayo announced that they all died in a shootout in the heist, and they were escorted out in zipped body bags. In return of Tamayo becoming a hero, the chase would end for the robbers. Denver was supposedly in custody but he was also released and in 24 hours, they were all given fresh passports to start fresh lives.

As for the gold, it was shipped to Portugal in the same house that was used to cover it. And as for Alicia Sierra, she and her daughter were also given new passports, but she went her own way and not with the gang. As for Professor’s nephew, we’re still trying to decode what his message to the youngster was, but he’s guaranteed to get his share of the gold, or at least Rafael believed so!
