It was June 2013 that Bollywood actress Jiah Khan was found dead and while it was declared as a suicide, there was a whole big controversy about who was involved in her death. Her then boyfriend and Bollywood actor Sooraj Pancholi was undergoing trial in an abetment to suicide case and finally, ten years later, on 28th April 2023, the court was to provide a verdict.
The Mumbai CBI court a few moment ago provided the final verdict that they’ve acquitted the actor Pancholi from the abetment to suicide charges, due to lack of evidence in this case. There are mixed reactions to this verdict from people following this case, with quite a few reactions coming out on social media, especially Twitter.
Sooraj Pancholi acquitted in abetment to suicide case
The actresses mother, Rabia Khan, was the first to comment on the verdict, saying the cause of death is still pending. While Pancholi has been acquitted in the abetment to suicide charges, she still believes that the cause of death is murder and that question is yet to be answered. She said she’s believed it’s murder from the start and that she’ll continue to fight for her daughter.

He was let go free because of ‘paucity of evidence’ and most of Twitter users believed they saw this verdict coming in. Some Bollywood families have a lot of power and they’ve gotten away with a lot in decades gone by as well. Sooraj came to the verdict with his mother Zarina Wahab and if he was proven guilty today, he’d get up to 10 years imprisonment for the crime.

Pancholi’s lawyer Prashant Patil gave a statement today saying that after examining 22 witnesses over the last 10 years, not a single evidence was found against his client. This includes investigations by the CBI and Mumbai Police, and he mentioned that evidence is more important that just creating a ruckus in the press and digital media. See his statement here:

Pancholi acquitted due to Lack of evidence?? 🙂 There are N number of evidences that prove she was killed. Oh yes!! Tampering with the evidence is what MuPo does all the time and they must've destroyed crucial evidence too.

Now 32 years old, Pancholi hasn’t lost too much of work over these last ten years, appearing in films like Hero in 2015, Satellite Shankar in 2019, Time to Dance in 2021, and others as well.
