Mimi Review: Kriti Sanon Delivers Career Best Act

Releasing exclusively on Jio Cinema and Netflix on 30th July 2021, Mimi is one Hindi movie that people have been waiting for since a few weeks. And now that it’s finally out and we’ve watched it, I must say that there are quite a few flaws and well, inconsistencies in the movie. It had a lot in it to make it a complete blockbuster including a great cast, but unfortunately, I wouldn’t rate this movie tooooo highly.

Mimi Review: Kriti Sanon Delivers Career Best Act

Why we say that, you wonder?! Well, the movie is based on surrogacy and a foreign couple coming to India in search of someone who can carry their baby. Honestly, this doesn’t sound like a very original script in the first place as a 2010 Marathi film called Mala Aai Vhaychay follows the exactly same concept and story line involving a foreign couple looking to find a mother to their child in India.

Google that Marathi film and you’ll get all the details you need. Moreover, the practice of having foreigners looking for surrogate mothers in India has been banned in the country since 2015, so we may have regressed a bit in this Laxman Utekar directed film. Having said that, it’s not something you shouldn’t watch and like most Bollywood films, there’s drama, item songs, humour and in short, a fun 2 hours!

While we’re not too happy with the concept and the idea of the film itself, let’s not forget we have the stunning Kriti Sanon as the lead actress, who impresses at every stage of the film. Whether it’s her Rajasthani accent or her brilliant dance moves or comic timing, she’s a 10/10 in this movie and we’d possibly like to call it the best performance in her acting career so far.

Mimi Film Trailer:

She’s gone away from the usual romance films that one would expect from the new-age heroines and played a small town girl who has big dreams but empty pockets. She accepts money to give birth to someone else’s child and right through the film, her talent as an actress is quite visible. Remember, she’s also starring alongside another super talented actor in Pankaj Tripathi, so that probably rubbed off as well!

Once the plot int he film has been revealed, the writers seem to have derailed a bit and it just goes on for a while. In fact, there may be a time or two in the film where you crack a yawn but we recommend watching Mimi only because of Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi’s outstanding roles! For Tripathi, we’d like to add ‘As Always‘.
