If you are a tech buff or even if you like to follow world news on a daily basis, you would’ve surely heard about Satya Nadella being appointed as the new Microsoft Chairman earlier this year. Now for those who know about Microsoft, Satya Nadella is not a new name to you. He was already Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the multi-billion dollar company since may years and this top-level executive change to Chairman comes approximately a year after Bill Gates stepped down from the Board of Directors.

Microsoft made the announcement late on Wednesday, 16th June 2021, that Nadella will be replacing John Thompson as the Chairman o the company. In case you didn’t know, Nadella took over as CEO way back in 2014 when he replaced Steve Ballmer, and it was the natural progression for him really. He’s been involved in key acquisitions over the years like LinkedIn, Nuance Communications, ZeniMax, and more.
Now Thompson will continue in the company and serve as lead independent director, as per a statement from Microsoft. Now if you’re one of those wondering who is Satya Nadella? The Indian-American business executive is married to Anupama Nadella since 1992 and has three children. Born in Hyderabad, India, he was raised in a Hindu family before making the move to the USA.
He completed his MS in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 1990 and later, completed his MBA from University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 1996. He joined Microsoft way back in 1992 and has been with the company ever since, being executive VP of Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise group before becoming CEO.
