It’s a big loss for the entire digital marketing and SEO community as we’ve heard news of Amazon retiring one of its flagship SEO tools which has been around for years now. We’re talking about Alexa.com which was founded 25 years ago all the way back in 1996 and which has been used by the entire search marketing community ever since then.
The effectiveness of the brand led to it being acquired by Amazon in 1999. While it initially only provided rankings of websites based on its traffic, the site later went on to provide complete SEO tools and analysis for websites, like site auditing and backlink checking. Apart from having a wide range of marketing tools, the site went on to always been known for providing accurate Alexa Rankings.

You’d know your site popularity by just entering www.sitename.com in the Alexa Ranking search bar but in recent years, the website didn’t see too many upgrades or enhancements, and we knew this site would soon one day pack up. In fact, it was only recently that Amazon announced that they will be retiring Alexa.com which has also been communicated by a message on their website. See below:
“Twenty-five years ago, we founded Alexa Internet. After two decades of helping you find, reach, and convert your digital audience, we’ve made the difficult decision to retire Alexa.com on May 1, 2022. Thank you for making us your go-to resource for content research, competitive analysis, keyword research, and so much more. We have been proud to serve you as customers. Thank you sincerely, The Alexa.com Team.”
Alexa stopped offering new subscriptions to users back on 8 December 2021 and a few days later, they posted on their website saying ‘We will be retiring Alexa.com on May 1, 2022’, along with the note above. For more similar tech updates, make sure you stay tuned to ReadScoops.com…
