“I Would Do It All Over Again” Says an Emotional Federer

It’s clearly the end of an era as we saw one of the greatest of all time in modern tennis walk away from the professional sport earlier this morning. We’re talking about Roger Federer who made his last appearance on court in the 2022 Laver Cup at The O2 Arena in London, and the entire tennis world was tuning in to this moment.

He was paired up with his greatest rival on court but also good friend Rafael Nadal, as they played Europe vs Rest of the World in a double’s game. The duo of Federer and Nadal were up against the much younger pair of Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe from USA and we knew that the odds were also against the legendary pair. But it was a game to remember for multiple reasons.

"I Would Do It All Over Again" Says an Emotional Federer

Roger Federer ends career with emotional interview

Firstly, it was one to remember because two tennis greats in Federer and Nadal were playing on the same side of the net, which hasn’t happened too many times in the past. Secondly, it was Federer’s last game and the entire world was backing them to win. They won the first set 6-4 but from there, it was downhill as Sock/Tiafoe won the second set 7-6, followed by a well fought victory of 11-9 in the final set.

There were millions of people cheering on Federer and wanting him to end on a high and while it seemed likely initially, they lost the last couple of sets and Federer ended an illustrious career with a loss at the 2022 Laver Cup. And it was a very emotional next few moments to follow, as everyone knew it was the end of Federer’s long and successful career.

He was very emotional as he sat beside Nadal and he broke down into tears while the interview was underway after the game as well. However, he said that he’d do it all again, wile breaking down again. “It’s been a perfect journey. I would do it all over again,” he said. He also thanked his fans for supporting him tonight and right through his professional career too.

Nadal sat and cried beside him on court and we witnessed some of the best moments in professional sport. There’s nothing better than a rival/colleague cry alongside you because it shows how much you’ve contributed to the game of the years. We talk about talent but Federer has always displayed the highest levels of sportsmanship as well, which is another main reason why he’s considered a living legend.

We wish Federer the best of luck for the rest of his life and thank him for all the great memories over the years. For similar updates on tennis and for similar sports news from around the world, keep reading ReadScoops.com
