Who Will Win Women’s Australian Open 2022?

Over the last decade, there have been so many repeat victories in the men’s tour in highest-stage tennis action. This is because the likes of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal have been maintaining the highest levels of fitness and winning continuously. Very rarely do outsiders get chances in the men’s game, with even the #2 and #3 seeds finding it difficult to win the men’s grand slams of late.

It was only US Open 2021 where one of the next gen kids won a title, when Djokovic lost his first Grand Slam game in the calendar year, losing in the final to Daniil Medvedev. However, it’s not such tight competition in the women’s game, with the top seeds rarely ever winning a major in recent years. Today, we’re going to discuss options of who could end up being the women’s 2022 Australian Open winner

Who Will Win Women's Australian Open 2022?

Who will win the women’s Aus Open 2022?

It’s been very difficult to answer this question when it comes to the women’s competition of late. Let’s look at the last slam for instance. It wasn’t someone in the top ten seeds, or outside that, or even an unseeded player, but a qualifier in Emma Raducanu who went on to win the 2021 US Open. As for this tournament’s top seed Ashleigh Barty, she has made only 1 final in the last 10 Grand Slams to have taken place.

There’s a lot of inconsistency in the women’s tour and that’s where it becomes difficult to predict who will become the women’s Australian Open 2022 winner. However, we definitely like the young Raducanu from Great Britain. Let’s not forget she didn’t lose a single set in the US Open 2021, winning each game in straight sets from the qualifiers to the final.

She dismissed her opponents and another teenager who was fabulous with her shot selection and temperament in that tournament until she lost to Raducanu itself was Canada’s Leylah Fernandez. And if you look at the more seasoned players, there’s someone like Aryna Sabalenka who has made the semi finals of both of the last two slams and she’ll be itching to go two steps further this time.

In fact, we had a similar discussion in our blog on Australian Open 2022 women’s winner betting odds and markets, where Barty and defending champion Naomi Osaka are favourites to win, and you can read that here. Most may agree that the women’s tournament at Australian Open 2022 may even end up drawing more viewers and entertainment than the men’s tournament, and we don’t disagree.

Regardless of who wins, we think it’s going to be an intense Aus Open 2022 and it’ll be a great way to start the year on the tennis calendar.
