WATCH: Rafael Nadal Interview After 2022 Acapulco Win

No one would really say this man is 35 years old because he’s beating those who are 10 and 15 years younger than him on the tennis courts. Earlier this month, he won a hard fought battle against Daniil Medvedev in the 2022 Australian Open final to win a record 21st grand slam title. Now a few days ago, Rafael Nadal beat Medvedev once again in the semi final of another tournament in Mexico.

We’re talking about the 2022 Acapulco Open where Nadal has gone on to win the final as well, beating UK’s Cameron Norrie in the final to extend his winning streak in 2022 so far. He was sidelined for 6 months due to injury and Rafa has come back stronger than we’ve ever seen him before. The victory in the Acapulco Open 2022 final marked his fifteenth consecutive victory since the start of the year.

In fact, he won both the semi final as well as the final in straight sets, beating Norrie 6-4, 6-4 in the final earlier today. He goes up 15-0 in matches in 2022 and this is his third consecutive title in the year. He won the Melbourne Open, the Australian Open and now added the Mexican Open to his list of titles which also went on to become his 91st career ATP title.

The man is getting better with time and with age and we’re able to witness this greatness. He’s had a perfect season so far and we’re already two months into the start of the new year. He went on to win this ATP 500 event without dropping a single set in the tournament, seeded number #4 at the start of the event in Mexico.

Nadal went on to say how this venue is a very special one for him as he’s not only the youngest champion here (2005) but he’s now also the oldest champion here, winning it for the fourth time which is a joint record with David Ferrer and Austria’s Thomas Muster. He’s now also the first champion at the new stadium in this venue.

“It was a very humid day, very difficult conditions. Cameron is a solid player, a very tricky player who makes you feel uncomfortable. I went through some difficult moments in the match, but I was able to survive and take advantage when I had opportunities,” said Nadal in his on-court interview after the game.

With the way he’s going, Nadal is going to be a massive threat going into the second grand slam of the year which is now a couple of months away. When Djokovic returns to the tour, will it be tougher than we imagine?! We’re all big fans of Nadal and we hope to see this good form continuing in the weeks and months to come on the tour.
