No one had ever won 7 Australian Open titles before Novak Djokovic. No one even won 8 titles before the Serbian got there. No one had 9 titles either before this legendary tennis player. And today, the superstar went on to get his 10th Australian Open title and his 22nd overall grand slam single’s title, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2023 Aus Open final.
It wasn’t his toughest battle in a grand slam final but Djokovic managed to get through one more time and add another trophy to his cabinet. He won in straight sets but what followed was a super emotional Novak Djokovic, one that we haven’t seen before in so many years of seeing him play tennis at the highest level.
Australian Open 2023 – Novak Djokovic crying
And for those of you wondering what made him cry, let’s remember that it’s really tough to win a grand slam and Djokovic has got ten of those in Australia itself. This incredible athlete is 35 years old and battled with players 10+ years younger than him during the last fortnight here at Melbourne Park in Australia. It has to be tough!
Additionally, he was given a lot of criticism for not following the Covid-19 vaccination guidelines, for which we was banned from playing in the 2022 Aus Open. He was allowed back in 2023 and before the ban, he had won three consecutive seasons here. Now, he has won four consecutive seasons where he played in Melbourne, proving once again how he is the greatest of all time.

It’s been 15 years since Djokovic first won in Australia and 15 years later, he’s still as hungry as he was back then. He was super emotional after the win, climbing into his box from the court and hugging everyone in there. He caught them all and pulled back, before lying down on the floor, covering his face, and bitterly sobbing.
He finally managed to get himself up and climb back out onto the court. Once again, he sat down at his chair and held his face in the towel, where he was heard sobbing once more. Even the post-match presentation ceremony saw Djokovic giving a very long and emotional speech, calling it the ‘biggest victory of his life’, considering the circumstances. He said only friends and family know what he had to go through.

He’s shown a strong sense of character, playing more top level tennis than most others in the history of the game. To be banned and come back just as strong, is amazing. He wasn’t the top seed but was the number #3 seed here, but still managed to come out on top. Additionally, he maintained his world number #1 ranking after this fantastic victory tonight.
One of the on-air commentators ended the broadcast by saying that in the herd of GOATs we’ve seen in modern-era tennis, Djokovic is probably the one who will end up with the longest horns. For similar tennis and other sports news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com.
