Miami Open 2023 – Twitter Reactions to Khachanov Beating Tsitsipas

It was only a couple of months ago at the 2023 Australian Open when we saw a great match-up of Karen Khachanov vs Stefanos Tsitsipas. In this Russia vs Greece encounter, not many people gave Khachanov a chance of winning and with his record against top 10 ranked players, we could understand why he wasn’t expected to do well in that all-important semi-final clash.

He ended a good tournament in a 4-set bow out against Tsitsipas but he found himself up against the Greek player once again, this time at the 2023 Miami Open. The two were up against each other in the Round of 16 game being played at the grandstand and here, Khachanov was the number #14 seed as compared to Tsitsipas who was seeded number #2. However, it was the Russian player’s day today.

Miami Open 2023 - Twitter Reactions to Khachanov Beating Tsitsipas

Twitter reacts to Khachanov beating Tsitsipas

The first set on the day was a very tight one but Khachanov looked very much in control. The set went to the tie-breaker but he managed to keep his calm and take a 1-0 lead in the game. And while Tsitsipas has got himself out of trouble many times in the past after losing an opening set, he found it difficult here as he was broke early in the second set as well. Twitter users were having a field day watching this game!

Eventually, Khachanov managed to hold right through and win the second set as well, securing himself a very important win on the ATP tour, and one that will do his confidence a lot of good. He’s struggled against top ranked players and all of his fans on Twitter were up as he powered through to the Miami Open 2023 quarter finals. On the other hand, some users believed Khachanov just had a lucky day!

Tsitsipas has a habit of always holding on and while he ended up on the losing side today, he made sure it wasn’t easy for Khachanov either. Despite several chances to close the game earlier, Khachanov wasn’t able to finish it off early. Either way, he won and has progressed to the Round of 8, after beating Jiri Lehecka and Tomás Martín Etcheverry in rounds before this one.

Just to give you an idea of how frustrating it may have been for Khachanov, he ended a 23-match losing streak against top 10 ranked players. Today would be a sigh of relief for him, as the last time he did so was in Canada in 2019. It’s also his first ATP Masters quarter final since Canada in 2019. Can he keep up the momentum in the quarter final as well?

Maybe it’s a much needed break for Tsitsipas with a tough calendar coming up. Next, he’ll be seen on clay at Monte Carlo, where he’s expected to make quite an impact. For similar updates from Miami Open 2023 and other tennis events from around the world, remember to stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
