Among the mal players, Kei Nishikori and Roger Federer dropped out early from the tournament while Nick Kyrgios also announced he’ll skip the 2022 French Open, and Andy Murray decided to stay out of the entire clay court season. As for those present, Novak Djokovic will be raring to go after missing the 2022 Australian Open due to passport issues, and he’s your likely top seeded male player.

In the women’s competition, America’s Sofia Kenin will be missing out on the tournament and has already been replaced by her countrywoman, Bernarda Pera. Players from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to play the 2022 French Open but they won’t be able to play under the names or flags of these countries because of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

What are seeds in tennis?

Seeds are a system designed so that the organisers ensure the top players in each tournament don’t end up playing each other in the start of the draw. Seeds are made in such a way that if the ranked players all progress as per plan, the top two seeds will clash in the final game. It’s done to ensure the top players don’t have tough competitors at the start if the draw, as well to ensure good viewership and taking care of the commercial angle!
