Four grand slams are played every year and after the most thrilling start to the year with Rafael Nadal winning the 2022 Australian Open in February, we’re all set to begin the countdown to the second slam of the year – French Open 2022. Now for all those who don’t know, Nadal is the King of Clay and is likely to continue his dominance, especially after beginning 2022 with three consecutive titles.
The tournament is also known as Roland Garros 2022 and will be played at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France. While Nadal has won here a record 13 times, he crashed out of the 2021 French Open in the semi final and Novak Djokovic went on to claim the crown. In the women’s tournament, Barbora Krejčíková completed a fabulous journey to end as champion!
French Open 2022 Dates
As is the case with every other grand slam tournament, the tournament will be played over a period of two weeks and as usual, the dates are towards the end of May as it always is. The Roland Garros 2022 tournament is scheduled to take place between 22 May – 5 June 2022 and regardless of who goes on to win, it’s going to be a couple of weeks of massive entertainment for tennis fans from around the world.
Clay court tennis is often considered as the toughest of surfaces and is very physically demanding, so expect only the fittest of players to make it through till the end. With slower pace and higher bounce, players have to change their game in order to do well out here. Barbora Krejčíková in particular will love this venue as she not only won the women’s single title but also the women’s doubles at French Open 2021.
