What a fantastic game of tennis!
We had no idea who had the lead during this Australian Open women’s finals, as the advantage kept turning over. Simona Halep, seeded #1, opened favourite against #2 seed Caroline Wozniacki but Wozniacki got off to a brilliant start, leading 3-0 in the first set.
Halep fought back valiantly to take the first set to the tie-breaker but eventually, Wozniacki won 7-6 (7-2 in tie-break). Halep came back very strong in the second set and won it quite comprehensively, 6-3. With the players winning 1-set each, the game was right in the balance.
The top two were scheduled to meet in the final if everything went right for them in the competition and they did exactly that, giving us a match to remember. both players had their serves broken in the final set and they were 4-4 in the final set at one stage.
The player from Denmark registered her second Grand Slam title and first ever Australian Open title. She now has a head to head match count of 5-2 against Halep. Eyes will now turn towards the men’s final where the #2 seed will take on #6 seed Marin Cilic. Also, India’s Rohan Bopanna will be playing in the Mixed Doubles finals.
