We always talk about how beautiful a game tennis is, and today that game was in display in Paris. In the ongoing 2021 French Open, we have the women’s quarter finals going on right now and we just got done with one of those final 8 games. Here, it was America’s Coco Gauff taking on Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejčíková.
The latter was down 3-5 in the first set and down a break but she came back, and how! It turned out to be a complete turn of tables as the set went into a tie breaker and Krejčíková ended up winning and taking the 1st set 7-6. What followed was an absolutely easy set for the Czech 25-year old, as her opponent was in self-destruct mode.
We all know how good a player Gauff is and the 17-year recently broke a record in her last round, becoming the youngest American to make a Grand Slam quarter final since Venus Williams did so in 1997. However, the inexperience was on display in the latter half of today’s game. While the first set was a 71-minute tough one, the second one was a breeze for Krejčíková.

Gauff was clearly on tilt after having lost the first set and from there, all we did was saw her swearing and yelling in frustration. Let’s not miss that she also broke a racket on court and yelled “I can’t make a shot!” A more experienced player may have taken some time out and gathered herself but Gauff was broken thrice and was down 5-0 before we knew it.
Finally, she had a good service game and broke back once but that wasn’t enough, as Krejčíková served her way to victory, securing a 7-6, 6-3 victory and making what becomes her first ever appearance in a Grand Slam semi final. Prior to this, her best was a Round 4 appearance in the 2020 French Open and she has really outdone herself this time around. She won on her 6th match point in this game!
