Aus Open 2023 – Sebastian Korda Introduces Girlfriend Ivana

Another day and it was yet another thrilling and gruelling encounter at the 2023 Australian Open. Today, we were following one of the men’s draw games at Melbourne Park – Hubert Hurkacz vs Sebastian Korda – and it was a tiring 5-set clash. Eventually, it was the 22-year old American player Korda who managed to get through, winning in a 10-point tie-break in the final set.

After more than 3.5 hours of grinding on the court and losing the first set of the game as well, Korda progressed and he was thrilled, making the first grand slam quarter final of his career. Still very young on the tour, he was talking in the post-match interview to former USA tennis player and world number #1, Jim Courier. And it was quite an entertaining post-match interview too, as was Novak Djokovic’s yesterday.

Initially, he thanked his new coaching team including former Czech tennis player Radek Stepanek, who he believes is a great strategist. He then went on to thank others, before thanking his girlfriend who was also present at his box. And Courier went on to ask him for his girlfriend’s name, as the crowd roared when she showed up on the screen.

“The crowd wants to know her name,” he said, and Korda said her name is Ivana, the pretty one in the box. She is in fat quite pretty and after doing a little bit of research on her, the team at Read Scoops got to know that she hails from a very big sporting family as well. She’s the daughter of Pavel Nedved, who is recognised as one of the best footballers to have ever emerged from the Czech Republic.

Courier went on to ask Korda many questions including how he seemed so calm, even though he’s into his first ever major quarter final. Incidentally, Sebastian’s father Petr Korda won the Australian Open 1998 final, and he’s on course to do so now, 25 years later. Don’t forget that in his Round 3 game, he beat former world number #1 Daniil Medvedev as well.

In 1995, Courier beat Petr Korda and now, he’s here interviewing his son who played an amazing game to end on the victorious side of things. Korda joked about how the crowd got him through, but also his superstitions, saying the towel got him through the end. He won 10-7 in the final set tie-breaker and you can check out the winning moment in the video shared below:

The number #29 seed has gone way past where most tennis experts would’ve expected him to, and he now plays Karen Khachanov in the quarter final. While he played a 5-set game today, his opponent Khachanov got through his Round 4 game in straight sets and the latter is likely to have less tired legs going into that game. Will Sebastian follow in Petr Korda’s footsteps?! We’ll find out in a few days from now!
