There was a lot of talk about Rishabh Pant’s capabilities after a horrid IPL 2025 season playing as captain or Lucknow Super Giants. However, he seems to have turned things around for himself, joining an elite group of cricketers to score twin centuries in Test cricket, becoming the 7th Indian to do so, and overall the second designated wicket-keeper to get there, after Andy Flower did so in 2001.
He did so at Leed’s, where India is playing in the 1st Test of the 2025 India tour of England. In the process, he became the first Indian to get twin centuries in England, and there’s adulation all around for the Delhi-boy. When he scored the century in the 1st innings, he celebrated with a famous front flip somersault, and everyone expected the same when he got there in the 2nd innings too.

Rishabh Pant doesn’t do somersault in 2nd innings
Media speculated that there was a fallout between Pant and former Indian batter and now broadcaster, Sunil Gavaskar. This came up after Gavaskar called Pant ‘Stupid’ multiple times for a poor shot played at a critical juncture of a previous Test. However, it was great to see the batting legend egg on Pant and celebrate his century when he finally got there.

When he got to the century landmark in the 1st innings, he brought out the forward flip somersault to celebrate the moment. When he finally got into the nineties in the 1nd innings, fans were eagerly waiting for another flip, including Gavaskar on the balcony. He kept signalling to Pant to do the celebration, and Pant was quick to reply to his senior, saying he’d do it later.

Pant pulled out another celebration when he reached his century in the 2nd innings, and promised Gavaskar that he’ll do it next time. Or later. Either of the two. It seems like he was looking for a longer knock, which means that he could’ve promised to do it when he gets to 150 or 200. However, he didn’t get that chance as he was dismissed on 118, backing up his 134 from the 1st innings.
