PV Sindhu Grabs Bronze Medal at Olympics 2021

While India sent 120+ athletes to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, there were a couple of extremely favourite players who we really expected to come out with flying colours. One of them was PV Sindhu who was only 21 years old 5 years ago at the 2016 Rio Olympics where she had a brilliant tournament, losing in the final and bringing home a silver medal.

Now a much more matured and experienced player, we were expecting Sindhu to go one step ahead and get the elusive gold medal. While she won all her first four rounds in straight games, Sindhu was unfortunately unable to get past her semi final opponent, the world’s number one women’s badminton player, Tai tzu-ying. She beat Sindhu 21-18, 21-12.

After that heartbreaking exit from the 2021 Olympics, she still had the chance to secure a medal, as she played her third-place game today against China’s He Bingjiao. She is said to have completely shut off her emotions in this game and she ended up winning in straight games again, 21-13, 21-15, taking home a bronze medal for India.

While we have a massive Indian contingent at Olympics 2021, it’s been a poor result so far as this was India’s second medal only at this event, after Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal on the first day of the Summer Olympic Games. However, Sindhu went down in the history books as she became the first Indian woman in Olympics history to have won more than one Olympic medal!

Considering she has a current ranking of #7 in the world, this would’ve been a fantastic outcome for the Indian ace shuttler, who still has a few years of game in her. We wish her a hearty congratulations and hope for much more achievements and accomplishments through the rest of her badminton career.
