We all know that physical betting and gambling in India is considered as illegal except for in a couple of states like Goa and Sikkim. The laws for online and internet betting are different and hence, you’ll often find the top sports betting websites advertising through OTT platforms, and running ads across the internet as well.
Many of these brands have to take the surrogate advertising route in order to have physical branding in the country, hence a lot of them attach the word ‘News’ to their betting brands, setting up sports content platforms that don’t necessarily promote gambling directly. Recently, our team at Read Scoops spotted Parimatch having massive physical hoardings across strategic spots in the country.
Parimatch hoardings in Goa & Mumbai
While we’re not sure of other states and regions as yet, we spotted Parimatch hoardings in both Goa as well as Mumbai in recent weeks. In Goa, Parimatch has managed to get quite a few hoardings placed at strategic locations. You’ll see the yellow Parimatch banners multiple times as you drive from the Goa International Airport.
In order to avoid the immediate glare of lawyers and other authorities, they’ve decided to use the Parimatch News brand to promote themselves. However, it’s still a push from the brand as their News ambassador is Dinesh Karthik but they’re actually using the Parimatch.com brand ambassador Dale Steyn on these yellow hoardings across the country.
For those who don’t know, Parimatch is one of the leading sports betting and online casino brads across the world right now, with their presence in several countries. Recently, they even launched their sports exchange platform and they’ve been increasing their presence in terms of sponsorship and advertising as well.
Very often you will find Parimatch sponsoring teams and other franchise leagues, in order to get their name out these further. However, being able to host physical hoardings across the country is a big step in the right direction for Parimatch.com, considering the laws and legality status for betting brands in India.
Even if you see the hoardings, it tells you not to just watch the India T20 League (IPL), but play it as well. Now that line doesn’t really promote their news website but is in fact a direct advertisement for betting on cricket matches. Yes, Parimatch is pushing the limits and it’s a good sign for other betting brands as well in India.
We’re hoping authorities take notice of this and allow such brands to make their presence felt in the country. Allowing of betting brands to operate in India will lead to billions of dollars of annual revenue to government coffers as well as creation of employment in India, so it’s high time we start recognising the benefits of the same.
