Milkha Singh to be Cremated at 5pm Today

Known as ‘The Flying Sikh’, Milkha Singh was often considered as one of independent India’s greatest sporting heroes. The Indian track and field sprinter was introduced to sports while serving in the Indian army and after that, everything is history. Being the only athlete to get India honours at the 400m race in the Asian Games as well as Commonwealth Games, the sprinter passed away yesterday, 18th June 2021.

It’s been a while since he’s made any public appearances because of battling sickness and in fact, he contracted Covid-19 last month, and eventually died due to complications of the same. Winning gold medals in 1958 and 1962 Asian Games, he also represented India in three Olympic Games between 1956 and 1964!

Milkha Singh to be Cremated at 5pm Today

The entire country from all different fields of life and industries, mourned his passing away yesterday and it has been announced that the 91-year old will be cremated in Chandigarh at 5pm today. Having been awarded the Padmi Shri award in the past, he was also bestowed with the Honorary Captain rank with the Indian army, so he will be cremated with state honours today.

A spokesperson for the family confirmed that a cremation will be held in Chandigarh at 5pm today, Saturday, 19th June 2021. It was only recently that Milkha Singh lost his wife Nirmal Kaur to the same ailment, Covid-19. Nirmal was the former captain of the national women’s volleyball team as well.
