While we haven’t been too good on the medal’s front so far in the Olympics 2021 in Tokyo, Japan, Team India surely had some hope in their men’s and women’s hockey teams. While India used to reign over the world in hockey many decades ago, it’s been a long while since we’ve bagged an Olympic medal in this sport. Olympics 2021 however, showed us some hope.
Both men’s and women’s hockey teams reached the Olympics 2021 semi finals and this news would’ve had everyone on a new high yesterday. In fact, India reached the semi final of an Olympics event after 49 years and the emotions were running at an all-time high. Earlier today, it was time for the all-important semi final clash against Belgium. A victory here would mean a final and a guaranteed silver medal.

However, the great run had to come to an end early on Tuesday morning as the Belgian side turned out to be too powerful for Team India. Our hockey team wet down early in the first quarter but we saw a fighting spirit as Harmanpreet converted a penalty corner and Mandeep scored as well to make it 2-2 and level the game.
Soon later though, India conceded a lead again and went on to go down 2-4 as Belgium’s Alexander Hendrickx completed a hat-trick as well. Another goal followed and at the full-time mark, Belgium defeated India 5-2 and booked a spot in the Olympics 2021 final. As for India, they will soon play in the third-place game and the best finish they can get now is a bronze medal, if they win that game.
