Sports fans across the world have been starved over the last couple of months, with not a lot of live action being allowed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there was a recent charity game held between some of the legends of the game of golf and football, called “The Match: Champions for Charity.”
The goal of the match was obviously to raise as much of funds as possible, targetting $10 million to help frontline workers, small businesses and others affected by the pandemic. Basically, Tiger Woods took on Phil Mickelson, and both of them paired up with American football players Peyton Manning and Tom Brady respectively.

Not much needs to be said about Woods and Mickelson, two of the best golfers ever to be born while quarterbacks Manning and Brady need no introduction either, with Manning going 6-11 against Brady during their time in the NFL. Here, they went 2-on-2 in The Match and though there was torrential rain in the initial stage when the broadcast began, the show went on.
The game was played at the Medalist Golf Club in Florida, Woods’ home course and the experience and class showed on Sunday when they were in action. One thing to notice was the ‘air high-five’ for celebrating a win and that was a gentle reminder as to why this event was being played in the first place, to promote awareness and raise funds for COVID-19 relief.

Overall, the rain didn’t help but the broadcast prompted a lot of trash talk among the players which was good for viewers, and eventually, a massive $20 million was raised from the game. “Knowing that $20 million was raised is amazing. It was an honor to be invited to this, and it’s something I will always remember and cherish,” said Manning after the event.
