We all know about the devastating situation unfolding in Afghanistan at this point of time with Taliban forcefully taking over the reins in the country. A few days back, we witnessed heart-wrenching images and videos of the troubles being faced, as locals were scurrying to Kabul airport to find a way out of the country. One such visual that went viral on social media is that of a couple of people falling from a plane at Kabul airport after full capacity planes took off, and some people tied themselves to the wings and wheels o the aircraft as well. Of course, surviving a flight from the outside is nearly impossible and shortly after take off, people were seen falling off.

One of those persons have been identified as 17-year old Afghan national team footballer, Zaki Anwari. In the hope of running away and leading a better life outside the country, Anwari made the desperate move of trying to cling on to that plane, and he paid the price for it with his life. The official sports federation of Afghanistan confirmed the same on Thursday, 19th August 2021.
On Monday, 16th August, Afghans were seen surging onto the tarmac of the Kabul international airport to get on a rescue US Military plane (USAF Boeing C-17) and it led to the deaths of this rising football star as well as others. The General Directorate for Sport confirmed the news of Anwari’s death after having released a statement on their Facebook page.
“Anwari was one of hundreds of young people who wanted to leave the country and, in an incident, fell off an American military plane and died,” said the statement. They released images of Zaki on their Facebook account, one of them being the footballer in the team’s red jersey, sporting the number #10 on his back as well. See the disturbing video here:
