Christian Pulisic – Second American Man to Win UCL Title

For days now, everyone was looking forward to the UEFA Champions League final, which was scheduled to take place between Manchester City and Chelsea in Porto. Millions of people were watching from around the world and it was always going to be a good game considering both these clubs have been in great form in the last few months!

Christian Pulisic - Second American Man to Win UCL Title

Eventually, it was a winner from Kai Havertz in the first half which was more than enough to secure victory for the Men in Blue (the darker blue), as Chelsea walked home victorious, 1-0. The celebrations began as Chelsea’s name was being engraved on the UCL trophy and the records and stats started pouring in as well.

One very interesting stat that we knew was coming was that of Christian Pulisic who hails from the United States of America. When the game began, there were talks about him being the first American to play in a Champions League final. That of course, was incorrect as Jovan Kirovski won the title back in 1997, playing for Borussia Dortmund.

Which means that Pulisic didn’t become the first player of the US national men’s team to win a UCL final but in fact the second, after Kirovski. This of course happened after a long gap of 24 years, so it’s still a pretty sweet moment. Apart from personal glory, it’s a lot for the USA national team as well, a country which has built a strong football team in recent years.

Kirovski however didn’t play in that game in 1997, which makes Pulisic the first American playing in the UCL final to win it. However, there have been 9 women from America to have done it in the past. Regardless, we witnessed a good game and Chelsea fans will cherish this moment tonight. See the moment for Pulisic:
