It was match day 5 of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage and in Group F in particular, it was an important match today that was Villareal vs Manchester United. Coming off a very poor run and a few losses across competitions and even losing their manager recently, United hasn’t been in the best of space and they weren’t a favourite coming into this game.
If you watched the matched today, United wasn’t even at their best for the first hour of the game. It was only after that 65-70th minute that they started making a few moves. They were more aggressive and the Villareal goalkeeper was brought into the game for the first time. And finally, the Champions League legend managed to find the net in the 78th minute – Cristiano Ronaldo.
It was his 140th Champions League goal and to be honest, it would’ve been one of his easiest ones as the keeper made a wrong pass and after the interception, Ronaldo just had to lob it over the keeper to find the net. Just like that, the team that wasn’t the better one on the pitch took the lead. Manchester United 1-0.
United didn’t only manage to keep the lead but Jadon Sancho scored in the 90th minute which also brought up his first goal for Manchester United. United were 2-0 when the full time whistle went off and it was a great win and amazing 3 points for them after this turbulent week they’ve had. They flipped the game in 20 minutes and it was their first away win in 5 games at the Champions League.
