A few days ago, the world was shocked when a journey (and a marriage of sorts too) of 21 years between Lionel Messi and leading Spanish football club FC Barcelona came to an end. 17 years after his professional debut, the 34-year old was unable to get a contract revision which officially meant the end of his life at FC Barcelona, but a chance to start a new journey elsewhere!
They say the career of a professional footballer is usually on the decline at the age of 34 years but we don’t think that would necessarily be the case for 6-time Ballon D’Or winner Leo Messi. He only recently won his first major international trophy with Argentina when they beat Brazil in the final of the 2021 Copa America in July 2021.
However, he wouldn’t have seen his career taking a complete u-turn after that. Many clubs showed interest in picking up Messi but not many could afford him, for obvious reasons. The front-runner to sign him was always going to be Paris Saint-Germain and a few days later, that’s exactly what happened as they posted o their Twitter handle a few minutes ago to confirm the signing.

While there’s no official word as yet about the signing, Messi’s father has spoken about his son’s move to PSG while the player has also been seen spending time with and around the management. The official PSG Twitter handle also posted a sneak peek into what could be one of the biggest football transfers of the decade. See here:

Another record signing happened in 2017 when Neymar Jr decided to move out of the shadow of Lionel Messi and join PSG.
