David de Gea Pens Farewell Note For Manchester United

“I just wanted to send this farewell message to all Manchester United supporters. I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I took incredible pride everytime I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestows upon a few lucky footballers.”

These were some of the starting words of a very emotional farewell note penned by the now ‘former’ Manchester United goal-keeper David de Gea, who has finally decided to quit the English football club after 12 long years with the squad. He’s had his ups and downs, but it’s safe to say he’s been one of the best goalkeepers in Man United history.

David de Gea farewell to Manchester United

“It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I came here. I didn’t think from leaving Madrid as a young boy we would achieve what we did together. Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings,” added de Gea to let his followers know that he enjoyed every moment of his time at the English football club.

The Spanish footballer was around since the time the legendary Alex Ferguson was managing the side, and he’s seen many managers change since then. “Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me. We’ve seen it all. 🤘🏼❤️” was how he ended his note on social media.

He surely leaves the club as one of their greatest and we think he’s only going to get better from here on. Where he moves on to next hasn’t been decided yet, but talks have been underway for a few days and weeks now. Among his achievements with Manchester United over the years are:

  • 1x Premier League winner
  • 1x FA Cup winner
  • 2x League Cup winner
  • 3x Community Shield winner
  • 1x Europa League winner
  • 2x PL Golden Glove winner

Along with the caption to his tweet, de Gea uploaded photos of a few of his most iconic moments with Manchester United, including his date of signing and receiving his first United jersey from Alex Ferguson in 2011. Prior to that, he spent a few years at Atletico Madrid and the 32-year old ends with 415 career appearances for the club.
