WATCH: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Poor Performance in Saudi Super Cup Semi Final

Everyone’s aware of the massive move that Portugal and former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo made this season. After an ugly exit from United, Ronaldo exited early from the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Portugal after a shocking loss to Morocco, and then he was in the news once again for his transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Now most CR7 fans didn’t approve of the move as they think he could’ve easily been a part of one of the top European leagues for a couple of seasons more. However, he went ahead with the deal and is now a regular part of the side at Al-Nassr. Yesterday, they played Al-Ittihad in the semi final of the Saudi Super Cup and we must say, it wasn’t the prettiest of days for Ronaldo at all.

Ronaldo poor outing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Super Cup

While he’s the talismanic player of this club and even of the league to be honest, he wasn’t even close to his A-game during this semi final encounter at the King Fahd International Stadium. Al-Nassr won this same tournament in 2019 and 2020 and now with one of the best footballers in the world in their side, they lost it in 2022.

There’s been a frenzy on social media where fans have blasted Ronaldo for being the cause of this loss. The team had great stats in the game, with 64% possession as well as 17 total shots, as compared to just 9 shots of Al-Ittihad. However, Al-Ittihad still managed to win in 90 minutes, 3-1, though their corner count was also very low at 2 corners as compared to Al-Nassr’s 11 corners.

Al-Ittihad was leading 2-0 at the halfway stage and from there, Talisca scored once to give Al-Nassr a chance. However, Ronaldo missed many and was intercepted many times, while Al-Ittihad scored once more in the 93rd minute to secure the game and progress to the final of the Saudi Super Cup. It’s been a tough start for Ronaldo at his new club, with no goals in his first couple of games.

And to make matters worse, he was actually poor on the pitch. A video on social media was released showing how many times he gave possession away and missed within the box, also diving and missing to make a play on a couple of occasions. The caption read, “Cristiano Ronaldo vs Al Ittihad 🎥• Goat? Sheep? Camel?” See the video here:

And Ronaldo would’ve felt the pressure because even the crowd was chanting ‘Messi, Messi, Messi’ towards the end of the game. While it’s a tough time for the superstar right now, we believe he will kick back and be among the goals for his new side once again. Almost 38 years old now, Ronaldo will be hungry to hit back at critics with good performances for the rest of the season for Al-Nassr.
