Yashasvi Jaiswal Scores Twin Centuries in Ranji Trophy Semi Final

It wasn’t the best of Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons for the young and talented Yashasvi Jaiswal who only managed to score two fifties in his IPL 2022 campaign, averaging slightly below 26 with the bat. However, he’s made a good transition from the fast paced T20 cricket to the longest form of the game.

After a break in the 2022 Ranji Trophy season, we resumed with the knockouts stage and he’s been brilliant so far in that First Class tournament. The 20-year old southpaw scored a century in the Ranji Trophy 2022 quarter final, representing Mumbai against Uttarakhand. After scoring 35 runs in the 1st innings, he helped them get a victory with his 103 in the 2nd innings.

Ranji Trophy 2022 – Yashasvi Jaiswal Gets Twin Centuries

He decided to take his form to the next level in the semi final stage as Mumbai took on Uttar Pradesh at Bengaluru. In the 1st innings, he scored 100(227) to help his team get to a 1st innings score of 393. He put them in a good position along with his teammate Hardik Tamore who also got a century (115).

Mumbai then bowled out their opponents for as low as 180 and took a massive 1st innings lead of 200+. They batted again and once again, Jaiswal was among the runs. Interestingly, Jaiswal took 54 balls to get off the mark in the 2nd innings but when he finally did, he made sure to make it a long innings.

He got to a century in the 2nd innings as well, completing twin centuries in the 2022 Ranji Trophy semi final and also scoring three centuries in as many innings in this tournament. We’ve often spoken about this youngster as one of the best talents in the country and he’s showing us why once again. At the time of writing this, he was dismissed for 181(372) in the 2nd innings, with Mumbai at 423/4.

Here, Armaan Jaffer decided to also get a big score, dismissed for 127 after putting together a 286-run partnership for the 2nd wicket with Jaiswal. Given his form and the overall strength of this Mumbai squad, it’s likely that they go on to win this edition of India’s top first class tournament. They will play the winner of the other semi final between Madhya Pradesh and Bengal.

Interestingly, this is just Jaiswal’s second game of the season as he joined the squad only for the knockout stages. And he’s made it count in a big way with 400+ runs in just a couple of games. Mumbai can still go on to bat for a long time and that means a chance to get a massive victory, already leading by 640+ runs.

As for Jaiswal, he’s gone on to join an elite list of players from Mumbai who have scored twin centuries in a Ranji Trophy match. He’s clearly one batsman for the big stage as he even scored a century in the ICC U-19 World Cup semi final, and now twin centuries in this first class tournament semi final too.
