Being planned for many years prior to actually beginning, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) turned out to be a gamechanger for female cricket in India and across the world as well. WPL 2023 was the first edition of this tournament which attracted all the top international women’s cricketers, some of them taking home hefty pay-cheques as well.
And while we’re sure that this tournament is going to grow leaps and bounds in years to come, it’s still very much in its nascent stages. The teams that belonged to same franchise owners form the men’s IPL include Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians, while fresh franchise teams created were Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz.
For the first two editions, these were the five WPL teams to participate but with the growth in the popularity of the league, the number of WPL franchise teams may also increase eventually. On this page, we’re diving into WPL history and talking about the winner of every season of the competition till date, along with the runner-up, and the best performer in each year’s WPL final.
