Will Rohit Sharma Captain Better Than Virat Kohli?

For Indian cricket fans, there are a lot of questions to be answered. The biggest of them is why India hasn’t won a single ICC international tournament trophy since 2013? Under MS Dhoni, Indian won the 50-over World Cup, the T20 World Cup, the Test Championship and even the Champions Trophy. However, under Virat Kohli, no such trophies have been added to the cabinet.

Several chances been given to Kohli

The upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in October 2021 may be Kohli’s last chance, as there are reports of Kohli having received an ultimatum from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Even the most recent example was that of the World Test Championship (WTC) final which took place in June, and Indian ended up losing to New Zealand there too.

Kohli’s captaincy has been continuously questioned, ever since he took over the reins in 2014 in the longest format and then later in the white ball formats. In comparison to MS Dhoni, he clearly doesn’t have great laurels in terms of trophies. However, one may argue he’s transformed the team in terms of fitness and their attacking approach and mindset towards the game.

In fact, Kohli has many more overseas Test wins than MS Dhoni already, including a 2-1 victory in the 4 Tests that took place in England this month. But another demerit point for Kohli is that he hasn’t won a single trophy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) either, where he’s had plenty of seasons as captain. Which brings up the recurring question – Is Kohli a good white ball captain?

For us at Read Scoops, the answer was and always will be yes. However, critics will keep questioning and the hammer has come down hard now on Kohli because his personal form has dipped big time too, with no international century in 2 years. The WTC loss and his sighting at a book event when supposed to be within the bubble have added to the scrutiny on Kohli.

Now when we look at the options, there’s his deputy Rohit Sharma who has done well each time he’s led the Indian team in a white ball series. Additionally, he has a record 5 titles to his name in the IPL, a record which till date no one has equalled. So the reports could very well be true, than Kohli will have to surrender the white ball captaincy to Sharma post the T20 World Cup in UAE.
