The 21-year old right handed batsman came into the team for MLC 2024 and today, he was batting at number #3 in place of Australia’s Matt Short. Due to rain interruptions, the Unicorns had to chase down 177 in just 14 overs in order to win today’s group stage game. And losing Allen on the first ball didn’t help either. From there however, Krishnamurthi display a range of shots that impressed one and all, including a six off the first ball he faced in this innings. Overall, he smashed 79(42)* to take them home with 2 balls to spare.

It looked nearly impossible when they needed 93 runs in the last 6 overs and 44 runs in the last 3 overs. However, he partnered well with Australia’s Josh Inglis to get the job done. His innings included 5 fours and 6 sixes, showing power as well as finesse right through the knock. And when they won, that smile couldn’t leave his face as he shook hands of his teammates and opponents.

Krishnamurthi was born in Oregon in the United States but moved back to Bangalore (India) with his family when he was a teenager. There, he represented Karnataka U-16 and just when it seemed like he’d have a good career in India, he moved back to USA and was fast-tracked into the national side.

At only 18 years of age, he made his ODI debut in 2021, and has as of July 2024, only played three ODIs for them. However, he has a good record in the Minor League and now a good start in Major League Cricket as well. Today’s fifty was not just his first in MLC but also his first in T20 cricket; we expect many more from his bat across competitions in time to come.
