While the IPL 2023 season is done and dusted, there’s no lack of regional cricketing action as the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) has returned after a brief hiatus. A total of 6 regional teams will participate in MPL 2023 and these include Pune, Kolhapur, Nashik, Sambhajinagar, Ratnagiri and Solapur.
The Maharashtra Cricket Association is behind this league and they’ve secured bidding of 57.8 Crore for the MPL 2023 teams, with the season set to begin on 15th June 2023. The teams are yet to set their franchise names but they’ve all announced their respective icon players including Ruturaj Gaikwad to Pune, Kedar Jadhav to Kolhapur, Rahul Tripathi to Nashik, Rajvardhan Hangargekar to Sambhajinagar, Azim Kazi to Ratnagiri, and Vicky Ostwal to Solapur. The MPL Auction 2023 begins on 6th June 2023 with a purse of 20 Lakh.
While the MPL 2023 season is set to be telecast live across India on DD Sports, the MPL 2023 auction live streaming details are yet to be announced. Big money was spilled while buying the MPL 2023 franchisees, including Pune spending 14.8 Crore on Ruturaj Gaikwad as their icon player and captain. Similarly, 11 Crore was paid for Kedar Jadhav and smaller amounts for the other icon players, which match salaries given away at the IPL as well. However, don’t expect such major spending at the MPL 2023 auction as the purse amount is much smaller.
The young CSK pacer Hangargekar was also picked up for a whopping 8.7 Crore salary, which is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than his IPL contract as well.
