‘Well Paid India’ Tweet Was From Fake Account

For those who are following the action from the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE, you’d know that Team India registered its first victory of the tournament last night, giving Afghanistan a beating by 66 runs. A good all-round performance ensured they’re still not completely out of the tournament, after initial shock losses to Pakistan and New Zealand which put them on the brink of an early exit.

While it was good to see India putting up a good show, a post on Twitter went viral which showed the Afghanistan Cricket Board saying, “Well Paid India” after the game ended. Immediately, #fixedmatch started trending on Twitter with fans from around the world speculating that the game was fixed between the two countries.

'Well Paid India' Tweet Was From Fake Account

However, upon inspection, it seems like the account (which showed itself having a blue tick) isn’t a real Twitter account at all. The image in question showed us the tweet by @ACB when the official Twitter account of the Afghanistan Board is @ACBOfficials. However, the speculation and hatred on social media seems to have continued, having gathered a lot of momentum.

For those who watched the match, you’d know that it was in fact some great fielding, batting and bowling by Team India and Afghanistan had their moments in the game as well. To fuel the arguments of a fixed match, Twitterati is talking about this being the reason Asghar Afghan chose to retire from international cricket right before the match against India!

Either way, life will go on and this is too small a reason for any sort of investigation to go into the match. India lives to fight another day in the 2021 T20 World Cup and we wish them the best of luck for their last two games. For more updates, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
