The Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) has a longer history than any other women’s T20 franchise competitions across the globe. It kicked off soon after the start of the men’s competition and it has a decent following now, staged at a time before the men’s tournament takes place. Sydney Thunder won the first edition in WBBL 2015/16 and since then, there have been several other WBBL winners.
And while WBBL has seen some really successful teams (and others not so successful), we want to also focus on the individual contributors. There are some players who turn up year after year, season after season, and they keep scoring runs or picking wickets. We have a list of the top WBBL run scorers in history, but today we’ll talk about those who ended as the leading WBBL run scorers after the end of every edition.
The top run scorers in any season are super important, since T20 has always been considered a game of runs on the board, making batters very important. Check below for our complete list of WBBL top scorers (year on year), updated 14th November 2022, which we put up towards the end of the WBBL 08 season in 2022/23.

Quite a few times, the top run scorers of a particular edition have even gone on to win the Player of the Series award – happening in the cases of Meg Lanning in 2015/16, Ellyse Perry in 2018/19, and Sophie Devine in 2019/20. These three have not only performed in those seasons mentioned but they’ve also gone on to become WBBL and world women’s cricket legends too!

The next couple of editions saw the top scorer getting 500+ runs again while we saw a stunning season for Perry in 2018/19 when she became the first player in WBBL history to score 700+ runs in a single season, doing so at an average of 86+ which was nearly double of her last season’s average.

As you can see in the list above, a lot of names are recurring in this list, which shows the dominance that some of these players have had in WBBL history. One particular player who turns up year on year and season on season is Beth Mooney from Perth Scorchers Women who topped the runs chart for two successive seasons between 2020/21 and 2021/22, and is currently the top scorer in WBBL 2022/23 as well.
