A decade or so ago, one would’ve never though that getting to a score of 200 in an ODI or ODD game would’ve been possible. However, times have been changing rapidly and with that, the game of cricket has evolved into more of a batsman’s game, especially in the shorter formats. Today, we’re going to talk about some records in the history books of the Vijay Hazare Trophy which is India’s premier ODD competition.
It was in 2009 when Sachin Tendulkar became the first man to score a double century in ODI cricket. However, not many people know that the first woman to do so was much before that, with Australia’s Belinda Clark doing so waaaaay back in 1997. In the Indian domestic circuit however, it was only in the 2018-19 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy that saw India’s first ever ODD double hundred, scored by Karn Veer Kaushal.

Kaushal’s milestone knock for Uttarakhand broke a record of 187 by Ajinkya Rahane of 2007-08 as the highest individual score in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, a handful of batsmen went on to eclipse Kaushal’s score as well over the years and we expect many more to follow in seasons to come. In such a long history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, it was only 2018 onwards that these big scores of 200+ started pouring in, which shows the evolution of the game in the shorter formats. From these, the knock by Narayan Jagadeesan in 2022 garnered most interest as it is the highest ever individual score (as of Nov 2022) in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (and in List A cricket worldwide), also helping Tamil Nadu to get the highest ever team total in List A cricket, scoring 506/2 against Arunachal Pradesh.

In the same 2020/21 season, we had Madhya Pradesh opener Venkatesh Iyer who narrowly missed becoming the fifth ever to score 200+ in this tournament, getting dismissed for 198 after a spectacular knock against an experienced bowling attack of Punjab. Keep watching this list as the way things are going, there’s going to be several additions here in weeks and years to come.
The last addition to this list was Saurashtra’s Samarth Vyas who scored exactly 200 against Manipur and while his is the lowest score on this 200+ list of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he’s also among the fastest to get to this milestone, doing so in one of the first games of the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy season.
