There’s been plenty of debates about whether or not Australian middle order batter Marnus Labuschagne should make the ‘Fab Four’ in Test cricket, if not being the top batsman in the world right now. But one thing is for sure, that he’s one hell of a character and someone you will always enjoy watching on the cricket pitch.
It was only recently in the 1st test of Ashes 2021/22 that Marnus was in the headlines for laughing during a serious moment, when his teammate Travis Head was hit flush in the box, which you can also read about here. A few days later in the 2nd Test between Australia and England at Adelaide Oval, he’s in the news again, this time for talking to himself while playing the short balls against the English pacers.
He’s known for being eccentric in his ways, and having a funny follow through, with his batting style modelled on that of former captain Steve Smith. Today, he was up against some good pace bowling on Day 1 of the 2nd Test against England, with plenty of rib-cage and shoulder-height bouncers being delivered as well. That’s when he was caught on the stump mic motivating himself.

As Ben Stokes ran in to bowl, he banged in a short one of the body and Marnus was quick to duck in his own style, immediately saying, “Yeeeah, well played Marnus” which was nice and loud on the stump mics and the on-air commentators had a good laugh. They mentioned that he certainly loves it, but all of us watching also loved it for sure. Take a look below…

At the time of writing this, Australia were batting at 141/1 after losing Marcus Harris at 4/1 on the first day of the second Test. Warner and Labuschagne were in between a good partnership, batting at 75* and 58* respectively, after both also got fifties in the last game as well.
