There’s nothing better than Ashes cricket because the intensity levels are always 150% and higher. The players love every moment and we as viewers love it too. Today was Day 2 of the 1st Test match of Ashes 2023 in Edgbaston and it seems to be one hell of a day for Moeen Ali so far, making his Test comeback after 2 years, since Jack Leach was injured late in the hour.
The English and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder made 18(17) with the bat in England’s 1st innings effort an he seems to be enjoying his time as a frontline spinner as well, picking up two very crucial wickets on Day 2. He first bagged the wicket of Travis Head who got to another fifty and then, he bowled an absolute ripper of a delivery to get the big all-rounder, Cameron Green.
Ashes 2023 – Moeen Ali bowls peach to get Green
Ali hasn’t usually been considered to be a frontline bowler but more of a part-time one. Here however, he’s bowled 24 overs at the time of writing this and picked 2 important wickets, enjoying his comeback match at the age of 35 years. And the best part is that he bowled an off-spinner’s dream delivery to get the wicket of Green.
It pitched at the perfect length, with the line being somewhere around the 5th or 6th stump. A bit full pitched and wide, Green lunched forward to play the drive but he was left bamboozled and looking really foolish to be honest, as the ball ripped and turned in, only t smash into the stumps. Everyone in the stadium stood up to enjoy this important wicket.

“Oh, what a beauty” is what commentator Nasser Hussain said on air when this delivery was bowled by Moeen, and that’s the best way to summarise it, to be honest. Moeen has bowled the most overs from anyone in the English lineup and he’s surely repaying the faith shown in him, currently with figures of 2/98 when we wrote this, and the visitors reeling at 239/5, still 154 runs behind the home side.

Usman Khawaja is still standing tall at one end, smashing yet another century and he’s also scripting the most amazing comeback to the Aussie test side. However, he’ll be looking to get many more runs as there’s still a lot to do in this match. Both sides will be looking to go 1-0 up and take an early advantage in this Ashes 23 competition, and it seems like Moeen Ali is going to play a vital role in doing so for England.
