Complete Lanka Premier League (LPL) Winners List

India, Australia, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa, and many other countries were all ahead of Sri Lanka when it came to setting up a cash-rich T20 franchise league in the country. Finally, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) came up with the Lanka Premier League (LPL) which was late to the party but there seems to be a whole lot of potential in the island nation’s T20 league.

LPL T20 took place for the first time in 2020 and it’s still very much in its nascent stage, having completed three successful seasons with five franchises being a part of each of them till date. Now at the time of us updating this page, we’re all set for the LPL 2023 season to kick off and we’d like to take you for a walk down memory lane to check out the past LPL T20 winners list…

Complete Lanka Premier League (LPL) Winners List

In the first season, it was Jaffna Stallions who went on to win the tournament and lift the trophy, only to complete the double in LPL 2021 as well. In LPL 2022 however, they played under a new name of Jaffna Kings and the franchise even went on to complete the triple in LPL 2022. So far, Jaffna is the only team to have won the Lanka Premier League and we’ll be hoping for a new winner in LPL 2023.

The first two LPL T20 finals were almost like carbon copies, with both having Jaffna beating Galle. In both games, Jaffna batted first and managed to defend their scores. They did go on to keep up the dominance and complete the hat-trick as well, beating Colombo Stars in the LPL 2022 final. Two franchises in Kandy and Dambulla are yet to make their first entry into an LPL final as well. Both have new names going into LPL 2023 with B’Love Kandy and Dambulla Aura being the new names; hopefully, this will bring them some new fortunes as well. They even had complete squad revamps as Sri Lanka Cricket held an IPL-style player auction ahead of the LPL 2023 tournament.

On the individual performers front, it was Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik who went on to become the Man of the Match in the first ever Lanka Premier League final, winning the award in the LPL 2020 final after 46 with the bat followed by 2 wickets with the ball. Currently among the top run scorers in LPL history, Avishka Fernando scored well to win the MOM awards in both the LPL 2021 as well as LPL 2022 finals.

We’ve got many years to come in this tournament, and hopefully many more finalists apart from just the Jaffna and Galle franchises. For similar updates from the Lanka Premier League as well as general sports and cricket news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
