WATCH: Faf du Plessis Catch in SA20 Goes Viral

He may be 39 years old but he’s easily one of the best athletes in the world right now, is Faf du Plessis. We often ask the question of why Faf isn’t still playing at the highest level because when you watch him in the field, he’s electrifying, always. Today, he showed us all that he still has it in him as he picked up yet another blinder in the ongoing SA20 League 2024 in South Africa.

There was a Joburg Super Kings vs MI Cape Town game underway in Johannesburg when this special moment took place. The MI openers put up a massive opening stand of 200 runs before the wicket of Rassie van der Dussen (104) fell. However, the special Faf du Plessis catch came after that, to dismiss Dewald Brevis for the 2nd wicket of the innings.

Faf du Plessis catch in SA20 League goes viral

The former South African captain has played in yellow for many years for the Chennai Super Kings and now, represents Joburg Super Kings in his home league. Today, he flew fielding at hi favourite position at mid-off, running backwards to take one of the better catches you may have seen in white ball cricket. For Faf, it’s yet another brilliant catch in his career!

We all know that running backwards to take a catch is super difficult but Faf has done it many times in his career, but in domestic leagues as well as at the international stage. Once again, he ran backwards and plucked out the catch in a single hand, to dismiss Brevis, tumbling and celebrating as he managed to hold on to the ball.

Twitter (now X) went berserk as he held on, and many people praised his fitness, while others were not too surprised, given the high standards of fitness he’s set himself over the years. “Can anyone believe Faf du Plessis is 39 years old? TBH He’s more fit than many young players.” said on X user after watching the flying Faf du Plessis catch.

“Oh, what a blinder. That is unbelievable,” said one of the on-air commentators on the live coverage of the game. He was also referred to as the King of Joburg after he took the catch and lay on the ground, both arms raised in the air. It’s the first time we’ve seen this du Plessis special, and we certainly hope it won’t be the last either. See that Faf catch video here:
