This Sri Lankan bowling all-rounder is really starting to make a name for himself. Before this Abu Dhabi T10 2021/22 tournament began, he was in UAE itself for the 2021 T20 World Cup. While he’s been one of the leading wicket-takers right through the 2021/22 Abu Dhabi T10 League, today would’ve been an especially special day for him as he recorded the best ever bowling figures in the history of the tournament.

He broke a record of 3 years which has held by another leg-spinner in India’s Pravin Tambe, who picked up 5/15 in 2018 and you can read about that here. Hasaranga had a brilliant day in the field today after his team scored 140/1 in their 10 overs against Bengal Tigers. When it was time to bowl, he picked up 2 wickets in his first over and 3 more in his second, recording fabulous bowling figures of 5/8.
Today was a day of records as earlier in the Gladiators’ innings, Tom Kohler-Cadmore broke an old record of Chris Lynn’s for the highest score in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, recording 96(39) and beating Lynn’s 91*. As for Hasaranga, he bagged the wickets of Johnson Charles, Karim Janat, Benny Howell, James Faulkner and Vishnu Sukumaran to reach his milestone.
He’s very young and has years to break some more records along the way. In fact, his second over turned out to be a triple wicket maiden, and you don’t get to say that very often in any format of the game.
