Today was the first time in 2 years that we witnessed an India vs Pakistan encounter after the 2019 50-over World Cup. Prior to today, these two teams met 12 times in all World Cup (7 in 50-over WC and 5 in World T20) and India ended victorious all 12 times. However, a clinical performance from Pakistan saw them have their first win against India in an ICC World Cup.
What a moment it was as they didn’t just finish on the winning side, but they were absolutely flawless. And considering both these teams were making their first appearance in the 2021 ICC World Cup, it was a thumping way to start their campaign. Pakistan registered their first 10-wicket win in T20 internationals while India lost by 10 wickets for the first time ever.
These stats are good enough to tell you that it was a completely one-sided affair and even though we at Read Scoops were a little disappointed with the loss, it was cricket that won today. Despite the geo-political difference between the two countries, it was good to see a few laughs and interactions between players from both nations.

One particularly nice moment came after the game where Mohammad Rizwan and Virat Kohli were captured sharing a laugh and hugging. Rizwan and captain Babar Azam both scored fifties and any batsman in the world would’ve been proud of the way they were playing. Kohli, being a true, sportsman, went over to congratulate Rizwan on the innings and the victory.
Interestingly, Kohli also scored a fifty in the game and it was good to see these three exquisite players all in one frame at the end of the game. Unfortunately, India ended on the losing side and they have a long break before their next game, so they’ll use that time to regroup and come back stronger. Take a look:
