Virat Kohli Records First Fifty of IPL 2022

It’s been a long time coming for Virat Kohli. More than a month after the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) began, Kohli still hadn’t scored a person fifty in this edition of the tournament. He managed to get himself a couple of forties but the pressure was mounting right through the season, especially after he got a couple of consecutive golden ducks for the first time ever.

Today, he stepped out to back at the top of the innings alongside his new captain Faf du Plessis and he began with two boundaries in the first over itself. He came out with positive intent and while he struggled with his run rate in the middle overs after the powerplay, he managed to not get bogged down and keep the strike rotating!

IPL 2022 – Virat Kohli gets first fifty

The best part of Kohli’s game has always been his ability to keep the strike rotating, and not the big hitting. Today, we saw that intent and that sense of being able to touch and run like he has done brilliantly over the years. He started hitting the ball from the middle of the bat and that’s when everyone knew that the great VK18 was back in IPL 2022!

He arrived in style today and completed his first fifty of the IPL 2022 season. It took time and came in the team’s tenth game of the season but it’s always better late than never. And it came in the team’s first encounter against Gujarat Titans, one of the two new IPL franchise. It was Match 43 of the IPL 2022 season and the first game of today’s double header, where RCB won the toss and decided to bat first.

We have to also appreciate the innings played by Rajat Patidar who batted at number #3 today and played with a lot of freedom. His free flowing strokes allowed Kohli to calm his nerves in their partnership. As the game started and we saw some intent in Kohli’s batting, we at Read Scoops ran a poll on our Twitter account about whether or not Kohli would reach his first IPL fifty, and see the results here:

Eventually, Kohli got there in the 13th over of the game and while he did struggle to get there, he has the monkey off his back. Remember, there are still a few games left in IPL 2022 and that means we’re expecting a more confident Virat Kohli in the rest of RCB’s games this season. Could he even help them go all the way?

Alzarri Joseph was the bowler in the 13th over of the innings and Kohli decided to get to his milestone rather calmly, with a run to mid wicket. He got there in 45 deliveries and while it was his first fifty of the season, it was is 43rd career IPL fifty. The legend is back, and Indian rejoices today!
