Here’s someone who is super hungry for runs, runs, runs. There’s no such thing as nervous nineties for him. He wants to only speak in 3-figures and nothing below, and we’re talking about CSK and Team India batsman and opener, Ruturaj Gaikwad. The 25-year old has been an up and coming batsman or a few years now, but he seems to have opened up and blossomed, currently at his peak.
Here at the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he has been among the runs once again. He scored an amazing century for Maharashtra vs Assam in the semi final at Ahmedabad, continuing a brilliant season. He played without a blemish today, getting to 3-figures once again, scoring two successive centuries in VHT 2022 and his third century in 4 games as well this season.
VHT 2022 – Century for Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Assam
Last year, he scored four centuries in the VHT 2021 season and the way he’s going, he’s likely to get another chance to do so as he helps Maharashtra get into the final of VHT 2022. The Maharashtra captain scored a record-breaking double century in the quarter final game vs Uttar Pradesh where he ended with 220(159)*, showing an ability to change gears with ease.

He joined the squad late this season because of a wrist injury but he rejoined the squad in the quarter finals and has two centuries in two games since then. He was slow off the marks in this semi final as well, but he recovered well and got to an 88-ball century, with more than 15 overs left in the innings when he got to the milestone, which means he had yet another big score on his mind.

When he got to this milestone, everyone took a look at his batting average this season. He scored 124* and 40 in his stint prior to injury and then after sitting out a few games, he scored 220* and 109* (at the time of writing this), which made up a batting average of 493 (and going upwards) in the VHT 2022 tournament, and these kind of numbers are staggering and rarely seen!

We’ve always spoken about Ruturaj as someone to watch out for in the long run and he’s proving us at Read Scoops right today. We were quick to spot his talent many years ago when he was first given out an IPL contract to play for Chennai Super Kings. We reached out to him and did an exclusive interview on his current form and future in cricket.
Post that, he went on to score 600+ runs for CSK in the IPL 2021 season and he’s one to watch out for in the years to come. Today, he’s doing it for his regional side, tomorrow he’s sure to be putting up these big scores for the men in blue as well.
