The Indian Premier League (IPL) gives us something to cheer about on a daily basis. Just a couple of days back, we were all going gaga over one new batting record when Punjab Kings batsman Liam Livingstone decided to smash the biggest six of IPL 2022, which we also believe to be one of the biggest sixes we’ve ever seen in our lives (Read here).
Today, we’re here to celebrate another seasonal record but this time, it’s a bowling record that we saw during the Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad game of IPL 2022. SRH pacer Umran Malik from Jammu & Kashmir has been in the limelight all season and today, we went on to bowl the fastest delivery of IPL 2022, beating his own previous couple of records.
IPL 2022 – Umran Malik Bowls 157 Kmph
A few days ago, Malik had already set the record for the fastest delivery of IPL 2022 but it was a sub-155 thunderbolt. When he got his maiden IPL fifer earlier this season against Gujarat Titans, he told Star Sports, “God willing, I will bowl 155 as well one day.” But it turned out that he didn’t really need too much time to hit 155 either!
In today’s game against Delhi, he in fact cross the 155-barrier a few times. While he didn’t have a great game with the ball in terms of wickets, he was brilliant in terms of his pace, clocking 154.9 kmph in the 12th over of the Delhi innings. And then, he was entrusted to bowl the final over of the innings, where he decided to bring out many more thunderbolts!

It was over 19.4 of the innings when he let one rip against West Indian batter Rovman Powell. Malik sent the ball at Powell at a speed of 157.0 kmph which was the new record for fastest delivery of IPL 2022, beating is own previous record by quite a but. However, Powell was able to use the pace and dispatch it past cover for four!
The fifth ball of the over was also another super fast one, bowling it at 155.7 kmph. It was an otherwise forgettable evening for Malik who ended with 0/52 in his four overs and the way he’s gone in IPL 2022 so far, ending wicketless is not something he is used to. However, the pace he’s bowling will give him confidence for the upcoming games in IPL 2022.
The record delivery was quicker than 156.22 kph recorded by Anrich Nortje in IPL 2022, which was the fastest delivery in the IPL between 2012-2020. The 22-year old pacer now holds the record for the second fastest delivery in the history of the IPL, behind only Shaun Tait who bowled 157.3 kmph many years ago. See the thunderbolt here:
