Having begun around a week ago, the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 is underway and it’s been a fun journey so far. We’ve seen runs and wickets and a few records tumbling, but not as many as what we saw in today’s Match 22 of the 2022 U-19 CWC. We’re talking about India U-19 vs Uganda U-19 where the former batted first and broke quite a few records.
While the game has slowly moved into a batter’s game over the years, you’ll be surprised to know that the U-19 Cricket World Cup has been seeing some really big scores since quite a few editions. India U-19 scored a 400+ total today and it wasn’t the first but the overall sixth 400+ team score in the history of the U-19 CWC. It’s the second time India has reached this milestone while the highest is 480/6 by Australia U-19 (U-19 CWC 2002).
India scores 405/5 in 2022 U-19 CWC
Batting first as a team you may consider as one of the ‘minnows’ in the tournament, India U-19 saw a couple of big centuries from their young batters which allowed them to post a mammoth 1st innings total of 405/5 today, 22nd Jan 2022. This was led by opener
Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s century as he ended with 144(120) and missed a chance to get a record double century today.
And with the foundation being set, the young Indians were set to accelerate in the last few overs and it was all-rounder Raj Bawa who took over from there. He smashed the ball to every corner of the park taking over from Raghuvanshi and actually going on to beat his score, getting a big century himself and ending unbeaten at the end of 50 overs.

Raj Bawa scores record 162*
Not only was this the highest score of the 2022 U-19 CWC so far, but it also went on to become the highest individual score of the world event so far. Bawa smashed a total of 162(108)* which is a batting strike rate of 150 and his knock included 14 fours and 8 big sixes. He surpassed England captain Tom Prest’s 154* which was the highest score of the tournament before this one.
The Indian U-19 batters took all the bowlers to the cleaners and the only bowler who looked halfway decent was the Uganda U-19 captain Pascal Murungi who picked 3 wickets for 72 runs in his spell of 10 overs. At the time of writing this, the Uganda openers had just walked out to begin the chase and it’s safe to safe that India U-19 pocketed a big win here.
Having won the tournament 4 times in the past, it’s safe to say that India U-19 is one of the tournament favourites and with this fabulous performance, we can clearly see why they’re favourites for the 2022 U-19 CWC betting markets.
