Top Wicket-Takers in The Hundred History (Women’s)

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) launched The Hundred in 2021 in a unique format wherein the same men’s and women’s teams play two tournaments simultaneously, at the same venues and games on the same days. The 100-ball format turned out to be a super success and that’s why it was granted permission to have future editions as well.

The Hundred turned out to be a great boost for women’s cricket because the men’s fans were out supporting the women because of similar match timings and also the same franchises too. Today, we’re going to look at some of the top women’s cricketers (bowlers in particular) who have done well over the years in The Hundred with the most number of wickets…

We’ve already out out our list of the top women’s run scorers in The Hundred and now, we’ve listed down the top bowlers as well (updated as of 28th July 2022), with the list last updated prior to the start of The Hundred 2022 season. Narrowly missing the top five here ae Lauren Bell, Marizanne Kapp, and Hayley Matthews. You can check out our complete list below:

5) Kate Cross

One of three England bowlers on this list, the pacer put her experience to use and picked up as many as 12 wickets in only 7 games played at The Hundred. Kate Cross has a best of 3/19 in this tournament and gave away runs at just 7.45 runs per over. She’s one of only two bowlers who have bowled two maiden overs in this tournament (even the men haven’t achieved this yet) for Manchester Originals Women, the other being Amanda-Jade Wellington.

4) Amanda-Jade Wellington

The 25-year old Aussie leg spinner is also very vastly experienced with a cap received in all three formats. Amanda-Jade Wellington bagged 14 wickets in 9 games and is the most economical bowler on this list by a very long way, going at only 5.52 runs per over in The Hundred. She has a best of 4/12 for Southern Brave Women and is the only one on this list with two 4-fers in the tournament, while also being one of two players to have bowled two maiden overs!

3) Kirstie Gordon

Representing Birmingham Phoenix Women in this tournament, Kirstie Gordon is another English bowler who managed to make this list, with 15 wickets in her 9 matches in The Hundred. With an economy rate of 7.48, she’s the most expensive bowler on the list but the left-arm spinner knows very well how to break important partnerships; she has also managed a maiden in this tournament, while having a best bowling outing of 3/14.

2) Sammy-Jo Johnson

With 15 wickets in 8 games, the Australian bowling all-rounder is high up on this list of the top wicket-takers in The Hundred (Women) while also having bowled the least number of deliveries from among bowlers on this list. Sammy-Jo Johnson plays for Trent Rockets Women and has best figures of 4/15, while going at an economy rate of a little less than 7 runs per over in this tournament’s history.

1) Tash Farrant

Leading the pack in terms of wickets in the women’s tournament of The Hundred is England left-arm pacer Tash Farrant. She’s picked up as many as 18 wickets in 10 games, also holding one of the best bowling figures in the women’s tournament of 4/10. Playing for Oval Invincibles, she’s been one of their reasons for success in The Hundred and she has a strike rate of below 10 to go with an economy rate of only 6.20!
