Top Run Scorers in The Hundred History (Women’s)

In the summer of 2021, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) introduced a new format of cricket to the world. Known as The Hundred, the tournament was literally a 100-ball format with slight tweaks in the usual rules we’re used to seeing in international cricket. And the best part about the competition is that the men’s and women’s events took place simultaneously.

The success of the tournament obviously led to bigger and better future events, putting cricket on the same lines as tennis where the men and women compete side by side in grand slams. In the women’s circuit, some batters have done really well and we’re listing down the top run scorers in the history of The Hundred (women’s). Keep reading for the full list…

Top Run Scorers in The Hundred History (Women’s)

Top women’s run scorers in The Hundred

While the competition saw a majority of local English players, it’s great to see that the list below includes an Indian, South African, West Indian, and two local players. It shows that the league is one for the global stage. Here, we’ve listed down the top women run batters in The Hundred (updated as of 28th July 2022), with Nat Sciver and Lizelle Lee narrowly missing out by a few runs. See our complete list here:

5) Hayley Matthews

Probably one of the most destructive white ball batters in global women’s cricket, Hayley Matthews does well in franchise league and she did so here too, with 221 runs in 8 games in The Hundred (Women). She’s the only one on the list with just a single fifty (best score of 71*) but she’s among the top players in the women’s competition because the all-rounder from West Indies also has 11 wickets in these 8 games for Welsh Fire Women.

4) Eve Jones

Representing Birmingham Phoenix Women, the super consistent England Women batter has 233 runs in 9 games in The Hundred with 2 fifties under her belt, including a top score of 64. With 34 boundaries and 3 sixes to her name, we expect this top order batter to keep piling on the runs in The Hundred 2022 (not yet started at the time of writing this) and in future editions of this tournament as well.

3) Sophia Dunkley

Another batting all-rounder in this list, Sophia Dunkley has an ODI century to her name as well, so she made sure she scored a few runs in The Hundred as well. With 244 runs in 9 games for Southern Brave Women, she’s among the top run scorers here with two fifties including a best score of 58*. She has one of the best batting strike rates in the tournament of 141+ including a batting average of 40+ because of three not out innings.

2) Jemimah Rodrigues

While Indian men aren’t allowed to participate in such global franchise leagues, the women are and young Jemimah Rodrigues clearly decided to make it count at The Hundred (Women’s) with 249 runs in just 7 appearances for Northern Superchargers Women. She has a batting average of 41+ and holds multiple records including the only batter with 3 fifties in this tournament, the highest score of 92* and also the best strike rate of 150.9!

1) Dane van Niekerk

This extremely experienced South African former captain Dane van Niekerk shone in The Hundred too. While she has the lowest strike rate on this list of only 105+, she has the best batting average of 43+ with a total of 259 runs in 10 games in this tournament for Oval Invincibles Women. Her two fifties including a top score of 67* came at crucial moments for her franchise and we hope to see her amass some more runs here.
