India’s leading first class domestic competition, the Ranji Trophy has a very rich history over the years and decades. The tournament has always been a stepping stone to the Indian Test team for youngsters and those vying to get a national call-up. You perform here and the selectors definitely have their eyes on you. Such has been the system right from the inaugural Ranji Trophy season back in 1934/35.
And talking about performing here, there are several players who have come to the Ranji Trophy year on year, and performed in each and every season. Some batsmen have written their names down in this tournament’s record books with consistent run scoring through the years and through their respective careers. Today, we’re featuring the complete Ranji Trophy top run scorers list right through the history of the competition, last updated on 12th December 2022 before the start of the Ranji Trophy 2022/23 season. Given the long history of this tournament and the fact that not many players have such longevity in FC cricket, this Ranji Trophy all-time run scorers list hasn’t had many changes in the last few seasons. In fact, only 2 of the 10 players on this list are active players and played the last season (2021/22) – Manoj Tiwary and Paras Dogra – and they’re nearing the end of their respective careers as well.

Over the years and decades, only one person on the all-time Ranji Trophy run scorers list has managed to cross the 10k mark and that’s Wasim Jaffer who ended his career with 12,038 runs which is not only the most runs for anyone in this competition, but he’s also got the record for the most Ranji Trophy centuries (40 centuries) with two of them being triple centuries too (best of 314*).
During his prime, he played 31 Tests for India and also represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. That’s quite impressive considering most of the others on this list didn’t even have a fruitful international career, like number #2 on the list, Amol Muzumdar, who was never handed a Team India cap despite having incredible consistency and 9,000+ career Ranji Trophy runs.
